Dancing Through Sex History: A Link Round-Up

vintage african american male dancersBeen to a dance club lately? Thank your gay friends: The Very Gay History of the Almost Lost Tradition of the Sunday Tea Dance & An alternate history of sexuality in club culture.

Other great moments in dance history include Dreams of the Forbidden City: When Chinatown Nightclubs Beckoned Hollywood, Soul Train Lessons, and American Bandstand.

Need a reason to dance? Celebrate Erotic tiles going on display at Museum of London for Valentine’s Day, the discovery of a lost poem by Sappho, and/or the 4,000-year-old erotica.

And, because I do believe in properly crediting images in source and context (as do Deanna and John; who both posted the link the that great piece), the fabulous vintage photo shown here is from a photo collection on Flickr called Hidden In The Open curated by playwright Trent Kelley. It was found via NPR, where a brief discussion regarding “are they or aren’t they gay” is held. (See also.)
