Do Boobies Light Up Your Life?

I found this Pinup Girl Lamp & Burlesque Lampshade via a link at Kitschy Kitschy Coo.

I’m sure you’ll look at these fabulous lamps by Paul W. Shapiro (aka CreativePal at Etsy) and think, “What’s not to love about kitschy pinup and nudie lamps?” But, honestly, there’s such dedication to detail on these lamps, that I have to call them art; relatively kitschy due to subject matter and fun factor, of course — but still art.

Read about the amazing details on the Queens Of Burlesque Lamp & Lampshade (above):

This is a lamp and shade I have longed to make as a dedication to the gorgeous women of the old burlesque era. Unlike the striptease of later days, burlesque was truly an art form or a form of art if you will.

The lamp is a female torso made of hard plastic. It stands 23 inches tall and 15 inches wide. In my own inimatable style of trying to make each and every lamp I create unique, I thought to put the on/off switch in what seemed to be a perfect place . . . her chest. And since I was going the distance with this creation, I thought why not put a pasty on the other side. And to go one step further, why not make the pasty revolve when the lamp is switched on??? So . . . turn the switch once and the lamp lights illuminating the shade. Turn the switch a second time and the light goes off but the pasty revolves at a relatively slow speed. Turning the switch a third time and both the lamp lights and the pasty revolves. A fourth time and all goes off.

In fact, if one reads the detailed descriptions of his works, I dare to claim Paul W. Shapiro an Artist and his creations Art — each with a capital “A” — because he clearly has something to communicate. Just look at what the artist has to say about his Shadowland Shadow Lamps

At first they were just hand shadows creating people and animals. But as I expanded my inventiveness, the lamps began to tell stories. Clip art became invaluable to me as it was perfect for this medium. With the light off, you see an image. What are they doing? What are they thinking? What’s going on here? Then the light comes on completing a story.

All that, and you can have him add music or a quote or some bit of audio to his works too!

I love Shapiro’s works — not just the naughty ones I’m showing here, either. But my favorite is the Following the Bouncing Slinkies Slinky Animated Classic Pin Up Girl Store Display. She actually hefts and bobbles her own breasts!

If anyone should like to gift me one, I’d love to add it to my collection.

PS If you’d prefer, Paul also sells his fabulous works at Lov.li.
